What is Unique about the JCCNS?
Play-Based Curriculum
Our school recognizes and embraces that young children learn through play. Educational experiences are provided to students through games, arts and crafts, music, science, and movement by our two trained, experienced teachers. Children are encouraged to participate in all activities, but never forced. This child-centered approach encourages children’s attention and participation in a developmentally appropriate way.
Flexible Scheduling, Before and After Enrollment
Choose any combination of days and sessions to best fit your family’s schedule and child's needs. Once enrolled, your child can attend any other day or session, as space permits, using our unique drop in program!
Drop In Program
If your child is currently enrolled at the JCCNS, he or she is eligible for our unique drop-in service. Through the drop-in service, your child may attend sessions for which they are not regularly scheduled, whether that means a different day of the week, or an afternoon on a day in which they normally only attend mornings. Parents who have paid tuition in full may sign up on a first come, first served basis via provided Google Doc. Extra fees based on tuition for that day will apply(billed monthly). If you lose a day because of a Jewish Holiday, you will be eligible for free drop in credits, as well as our volunteer positions will earn you free drop in credit! Ask about further details.
Outdoors in All Seasons
Our program encourages students to play outdoors year round, whether through autumn nature walks, building in the snow, spring puddle jumping, or water play in the summer.
Mixed Age Classroom
Preschool students of a variety of ages and skill levels interact, cooperate, and learn together in a family-like atmosphere. Younger students look to older students as role models and older students develop early leadership skills. All material is presented in a developmentally appropriate manner with expectations adjusted based on a child’s age and current skill level.
Multicultural Experience
Our program incorporates Jewish traditions and aims to provide a cultural experience, never indoctrination. The children learn about the culture surrounding Jewish holidays such as eating apples and honey for a sweet new year, planting seeds for the birthday of the trees, and baking challah for Shabbat. We have diverse cultural backgrounds in our classroom, on average 50% of our students are Jewish. We discuss the cultural differences among all of us and embrace our diversity.
Parent Run
While our experienced teachers develop lesson plans and determine classroom instruction, parents fill a big role at the JCCNS. Parental involvement is never required, but is a great way to be involved in your child’s preschool experience. Our school board is composed of parents of current students and takes care of administrative tasks, tuition, registration, and the direction of the school. Many other volunteer positions allow parents to aid in the classroom and with supportive roles like shopping for supplies, coordinating field trips, and aiding in the classroom. Students see parents actively participating in the school, which gives them a sense of community.
Potty Training Support
Teachers welcome and support students before, during, and after the potty training process. Thanks to the open communication environment between families and teachers, the school can work with families to help their student during any level of potty training.
